The unavoidable beach vendors. What can you learn from them?
Quite a lot actually. I ran across another blogger who talks about the cycle that a beach vendor uses. We certainly can learn from the cycle that beach vendor and truly any effective marketer will use.
During my stay in Los Cabos, the beach vendor was a less intrusive experience than the high pressure airport transportation hawkers.
The beach vendors did interact with me; but it was on a lower volume. Some were more persistent than others. Most were friendly and I didn’t mind that they shared “my” beach with me.
I wonder how one transaction would have ended if I had been interested in the t-shirts the vendor was selling. Instead of telling him that they were priced far more than I was willing to spend for t-shirts, I said that I didn’t have money with me. He told me I could pay tomorrow. He called it Mexican credit. Really?
He then lowered his price from $40 to $20. I was not tempted. He was still bargaining as I walked away.
Truly, I wasn’t a good customer for the beach vendors because they didn’t offer what I was interested in.
I am sure that I was not typical or they would have gone to another beach.
The key for beach vendors, and you and me, is to offer what people want, when they want it.
Some of that is pretty intuitive, don’t you agree?
It makes sense to sell souvenir type t-shirts on a beach filled with visitors to the country.
Of course, there will be those who aren’t interested. Don’t give up. Someone will be interested. Does that sound familiar?
The successful beach vendor won’t let the disinterested tourist discourage him. He will move on.
Another key for beach vendors, and you and me, is to be friendly.
I would go as far as to say that the beach vendors were part of the atmosphere of Los Cabos. I would miss them if they weren’t there when I return.
And here is the good news. You can be friendly and outgoing even if you are an introvert. I know because I am an introvert.
I prefer to sit down one on one with people. But I can do the big group bit. If I am out engaging with multiple people during the day, I just make sure to plan alone time to recharge.
But as long as I have that recharge time, I can engage with people and I even enjoy it. So when I need to go out and engage with folks to build my business, I do it in small segments and make sure that I have time to recharge.
I find challenging myself by reaching out to strangers is fulfilling. It is far less daunting after years of practice. I suspect that people that don’t know me well are assuming I am an extrovert.
But trust me, I am an introvert who was glad to find another way to reach large numbers of strangers. It hasn’t replaced the need to use “beach vendor” strategy; but I think it is a great addition to my toolbox. Want to know more? Check it out here.
A final lesson from beach vendors, is that they don’t quit.
Everyday the same vendors were on the beach. That was true of other vendors that we interacted with. It I had changed my mind on the last day and wanted a t-shirt, I knew exactly where to go.
They are performing a service.
Believe me, if you forgot a sunhat, you would be glad for the vendor with big sombreros. Shade for your head and a great memory of your vacation. Win, win, win.

What do you offer? Health and wellness products? Innovative products? A great way to earn side income? An answer to retirement?
Focus on the stories that your customers and business associates have shared with you.
One of my favorite stories is what a man and his wife told me after they were introduced to my business.
Retirement was looming for them and they didn’t know how they were going to deal with it. They had health issues as well.
They were using the products with great results and working to build a business.
They looked me in the eye and said, “We were literally praying for this!”
When I get discouraged, I ask myself, “Who is praying for what I am hesitating to share.”
You don’t know who needs what you have to offer.
You don’t now who is praying for what you have to offer.
Don’t give up. Never give up. All successful people will tell you that.
Still you may feel like giving up. Call your up line and tell them what you are feeling. Let them walk beside you.
