Your Perspective Makes All the Difference
How is your day going?
Being in business for yourself can be unpredictable. One day everything is going your way; the next day nothing goes right.
Do you struggle with moving forward when you seem to be losing ground?
There is a Bible story that suggests a prayer and affirmation for you to practice to put your struggle behind you.
There was a war going on in the Middle East.
At the time, it was the Arameans who were attacking Israel. But Israel had a secret weapon – the prophet Elisha.
The King of Aram would tell his generals what he was planning.
The Prophet Elisha would send a message to the King of Israel of the Aramean King’s plans; and the King of Israel would be ready. This happened repeatedly.
The King of Aram accused his staff of a leak; but they knew that it was Elisha and told their king, who planned to permanently stop Elisha. The foolish part of this story is that neither king recognized who was really the source.
Elisha was not a spy; he was a man of God. He served the God of Israel; but the King of Israel didn’t and neither did the King of Aram. But God was still involved in their lives.
That is something you and I need to consider as we go about our lives, don’t you think?
The King of Aram was tired of being defeated by the information that his opponent was receiving so he planned to capture Elisha.
The story is already fascinating and with God involved it just gets better.
The King of Aram asked his team to find out where Elisha was and then, overnight, he and his army surrounded Elisha.
Elisha’s servant woke to see that they were surrounded by the enemy and he panicked.
Before we hear what comes next, I am going to pick on Elisha’s servant a bit.
Servants usually are present in their master’s lives. They see everything that is happening, right?
Elisha did not keep his relationship with God and God’s power a secret. He told others. And yet, his servant missed the point.
Don’t you miss the point!
The servant woke up and saw an overwhelming force lined up against the man of God. Or so he thought.
He said to the man of God, “Oh no, what are we going to do!”
The man of God was more gracious than I have been to his servant. He calmly asked God to open the eyes of his servant.
Do you know this story? I hope not. What do you suppose the servant saw once God had opened his eyes?
Elisha gave him a clue. He told his servant, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Then Elisha prayed that God would open the eyes of his servant.
The servant didn’t see just one “guardian” angel with a flaming sword. No, he saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
And then there was a huge battle and the Arameans were slaughtered, right?
Wrong! That is probably how I would write the story but not our gracious God and his prophet.
Elisha had prayed for his servant because it is not God’s will that we live in fear.
Then, he prayed for the enemy because God’s grace is far-flung.
Elisha prayed for blindness to strike the enemy. Without their eye sight, they could not capture Elisha. They were at his mercy and he lead them to the center of Samaria, the city of their enemy, the King of Israel.
Then God opened their eyes. The King of Samaria was ready to kill them; but Elisha said feed them and send them home.
The King of Israel finally got it and he and the King of Aram had a huge feast together.
And the Arameans never messed with the King of Israel again.
It was a diplomatic coup!
If you and I were involved in the Mid-East peace process there would be a lesson for us, don’t you agree.
We are not; but there is still a lesson for us.
The lesson is: when we feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of our lives, we need to remember that what we see may not be the whole story and we need to pray to see God’s perspective.
I am not sure that you would always see an army with chariots of fire but you would see what God sees.
You would see how God intends to use your present circumstances.
When you have invited hundreds of family and friends to join you in your business. You have followed up properly. And yet your team is small and your earnings not much bigger.
You see failure. But God sees the ones who will say “yes” the next time you ask.
You would see that around the next corner is success.
When your mother needs more of you and it seems impossible to attend networking events. You wonder how you can continue with the cold marketing that you have needed since exhausting your “list”.
God would see that you are going to see an internet ad about Attraction Marketing that opens the door to a whole new “list” of prospects.
You would see that God is doing things in an unconventional way.
You would be surprised and encouraged.
The key thought from this story is:
Those who are with you are more than those who oppose you whether they are people or circumstances.
Here are a few similar thoughts from the Bible:
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 NKJV
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 NIV
You may be wondering if God is for you?
My response is, was He for the Aramean King? Was He for the King of Israel who wasn’t really serving Him? Was He for the man of God who saw from His perspective and his servant who didn’t?
The above story leads to one answer, yes. God is for us.
So then the question is, Is God in you?
If you can’t confidently say yes, there is a way you can know. If you need more information, I will happily share. Just message me by clicking here. Tell me you want more information.
If you can confidently say yes, then read on.
God has a plan for us all.
Your circumstances are part of that plan. God intends it all for your good and His glory. Your prayer should be that your eyes be opened to His plan in your current circumstances.
Is everything going well? Pray to see how God sees it and what He wants you to do next.
Is nothing going right? Pray to see how God sees it and what He wants you to do next.
Pray with confidence that God has surrounded you with what you need. Pray with confidence that His plan is awesome!
Father God in Heaven, open my eyes of faith. I am walking by faith and not my sight. I don’t need to see the chariots of fire to know that You are with me. I move forward in this day knowing that I am surrounded by all the help you know I need.
I need _______________________________ (fill in your specific needs here.) By your grace I have them. Open my eyes to see how you plan to provide for my needs.
In Jesus name, Amen
I have overcome the challenge of __________________________________ (fill in your specifics).
I know that God is surrounding me with _________________________________________________.
My circumstances/enemies will not prevail.
